Food and Wines of Albania Guaranteed excursion starting from Tirana.

On this excursion, you will enjoy some of the Albanian foods and wines. The excursion will take place in the Central Northern region of the country. Kallmet is a hilly area with a long tradition of grape cultivation. Fishte is the birthplace of Albania’s national poet, Gjergj Fishta, author of “The Highland Lute.”  In 2007, they produced 50 hl (1320 U.S. gallons) of wine. Their production rate has steadily increased year after year. They produce wine entirely from locally-grown Kallmet grapes. Part of it is cultivated in the wonderful Bukmira hills that are over 500 m (1640 ft.) above sea level.

After that, you will travel to Mrizi i Zanave, a nearby local restaurant. Their motto is “Think Globally, Eat Locally.” It receives excellent reviews for its garden-fresh, organic, regional dishes and well-decorated facility. They only serve what’s in season. In other words, the menu varies and everything is fresh. Moreover, all the dishes on the menu are designed for sharing so it will be easy to taste a variety of food. Itinerary

The tour starts in Tiranë, the capital of Albania, and its largest city. It is in the center of Albania, enclosed by mountains and hills. Tirana International Airport is served by local and international airlines.

After meeting the guide, you will travel north to the Kallmet and Fishte villages of Lezhë County to tour the Kallmeti Winery. Kallmet is a hilly area with a long tradition of grape cultivation. Fishte is the birthplace of Albania’s national poet, Gjergj Fista, author of “The Highland Lute.”

Kallmeti Winery was been established in 2006 thanks to the Gjini brothers’ passion for wine and their love for the land where they live. Their grape, Kallmet, was named after the heart of their birthplace. The winery’s goal is to produce the best Kallmet wine, to increase the quantity they can provide for their customers, and to improve its quality every year. In 2007, they produced 50 hl (1320 U.S. gallons) of wine; their production rate has steadily increased year after year. Wine is produced entirely from locally-grown Kallmet grapes.
